BLANCHARDVILLE - Pecatonica sophomore Drew Schliem turned in a dazzling pitching performance to lead the Vikings to an 11-2 win over Cassville Saturday, May 11.
Schliem tossed a complete game three-hitter to propel the Vikings to a non-conference win. He gave up just two runs, while striking out eight and walking three.
"He (Schliem) pitched well for us," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. "The key was getting ahead in the count. He had good command. When they did hit it hard, we made some plays on defense."
Pecatonica (6-8, 5-7 Six Rivers East) had a four-run second inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Pecatonica senior Jake Scoville, junior Tyler Hodgson and freshman Brooks Chandler were 2-for-4. Chandler had three RBIs for the Vikings. The Vikings had seven hits in the first two innings.
"We got some key hits," Strommen said. "It was one of our more complete games."
Pecatonica will play at Black Hawk today and at Belmont Tuesday, May 14.
Argyle 11, Highland 10
WIOTA - Argyle played a little small ball to rally to a thrilling 11-10 comeback win over Highland.
Highland led 10-8 going into the seventh. The Orioles scored three runs in the seventh to cap the comeback. Argyle junior Pablo Vives walked to start the rally in the seventh. Argyle freshman Will Herman was then hit by a pitch and freshman Derek Flannery laid down a sacrifice bunt. Flannery reached when the catcher's throw sailed over first base and a run scored. The Cardinals intentionally walked Alec Treuthardt. Argyle's Kyle Olson then laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to score Treuthardt to give the Orioles (8-4, 7-4 Six Rivers East) a nail-biting victory.
"It was a perfect bunt," Argyle coach Chuck Bredeson said of Olson's game-winning bunt. "We were able to play some small ball. Before the game, I told them we need to beat someone from the other side (Six Rivers West). They (Highland) are a very good baseball team. We somehow found a way to pull it out."
The Orioles were able to come back to win despite committing five errors. Olson went 4-for-5 and Treuthardt went 3-for-4. Argyle freshman Riley Ostby pitched six innings and gave up seven runs on 10 hits. He struck out five and walked four.

WALWORTH - Brodhead-Juda was plagued by errors in dropping a doubleheader to Big Foot.
Big Foot defeated the Cardinals 13-1 and 9-7 for the sweep. Brodhead-Juda (0-11 Rock Valley South) committed seven errors in two games. The Chiefs scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth to take a 13-1 lead.
Brodhead-Juda senior Matt Trotter pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs, but only five were earned on seven hits. He struck out two and walked three. The Cardinals were limited to just two hits.
In the second game of the twin bill, the Cardinals and Chiefs were tied at 5 going into the seventh. The Chiefs scored five runs in the seventh to cap the comeback win.
Brodhead-Juda seniors Trent Gerlach and Hunter Colden were each 2-for-4 at the plate. Gerlach pitched a complete game for the Cardinals. He gave up nine runs, but three earned on 12 hits. Gerlach struck out seven and walked four.

HAZEL GREEN - The Redbirds' offensive attack pounded out 12 hits en route to a 16-12 win over Southwestern.
Darlington (4-7, 4-5 SWAL) had four-run third and fourth innings to take an insurmountable 9-0 lead. Darlington junior Griffin Heinberg went 3-for-5 to lead the Redbirds. Darlington's Nate Fleming went 2-for-4 and Jason Singer was 2-for-6.
Darlington's Aric Geissbuhler pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up 10 runs on seven hits. He struck out seven and walked three. Heinberg pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief and gave up one run on three hits. He struck out four and walked two.

NEW GLARUS - Waterloo pitchers tossed back-to-back shutouts to sweep a doubleheader from New Glarus.
Waterloo knocked off New Glarus 15-0 and 12-0. Two Glarner Knights pitchers combined walked 13 in the first game. The Knights issued 19 walks in two games. New Glarus junior Ashton Jelle pitched three innings in the first game and gave up four runs on three hits. He walked seven and struck out one. The Knights (1-12, 0-7 Capitol South) used four pitchers in the first game and freshman Gavin Binger gave up 11 runs on three hits. He walked six.
