SAUK CITY - Taylor Soddy rolled in his No. 1 singles match, but it was a difficult day overall for the Monroe boys tennis team in Thursday's 6-1 loss to Sauk Prairie.
"This is definitely a disappointing loss," Monroe coach Brad Saugstad said. "We had such a good week of practice and then just came out so flat.
"We knew Sauk was going to be a good team, but to see so few competitive sets is disappointing. We made some errors early and they just snowballed."
Soddy posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Sauk Prairie's Sterling Walsh at No. 1 singles. Sauk Prairie's Mitchell Fiene defeated Kevin Noriega 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles and Monroe's Eric Bush and Matt Monahan lost at Nos. 3 and 4 singles without winning a game.
The most competitive doubles match was at No. 3, where Sauk Prairie's Keith Nolden and Bryan Wilcox posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Monroe's Bob Seicter and Luke Andraski.
"Sauk Prairie is a solid veteran team," Saugstad said. "They are so consistent and they don't beat themselves with mistakes. We can learn a lot from that team."
