STEVENS POINT - The Lady Cheesemakers have the ability to score both inside and out, but didn't need the 3-pointer Tuesday. Monroe went scoreless from beyond the arc yet notched a second win at the Sentry Classic at UW-Stevens Point, knocking off Eau Claire Memorial, 66-32.
Monroe, which dominated from the tip off, shot 16 of 23 from the free throw line and held ECM to just five free throw attempts in the game.
"I thought we did a really good job defensively," Monroe head coach Kevin Keen said. "It was a nice trip. Everybody got to play. It was a good opportunity to get away and play some teams we haven't played before. And it was an opportunity to play on a college floor. Hopefully we'll be able to play on another one later in the year."
Ashley Hermanson led all scorers with 16 points. Jamie Armstrong had 12 points, Gwen Sutter and Kylee Ritschard each had nine and Paisley Bennett shot 5-for-8 from the charity stripe in the fourth to get on the board.
"Jamie had a ton of blocked shots in the two days. She had 12 points both days and Ashley had 16 both days. (And) Paisley got a lot of opportunities in her time," Keen said.
Monroe jumped out to a 13-0 lead and finished the first quarter ahead 18-3. At halftime, the Cheesemakers pushed the advantage to 37-13.
