River Ridge fends off five local schools in conference meet

PATCH GROVE - Despite first-place finishes by the Pecatonica-Argyle boys track and field team in the 400-, 800-, and 1,600-meters, River Ridge dominated the Six Rivers Conference meet held Tuesday.

The Timberwolves' total of 211 points easily surpassed Black Hawk's second-place total of 99.5. Pecatonica-Argyle was third with 84, Albany fourth with 75.5 and Monticello finished eighth with 39 points.

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Lucas Stoehr took first place in the 400-meter dash in 53.21 seconds. Sophomore Wyatt Massey of Pecatonica-Argyle took first in two events by winning the 800-meters in 2:05.53 and the 1600-meters in exactly 5 minutes.

The 3,200-meters belonged to sophomore Reece Whitehead of Albany in 11:06.81. The Comets got another first-place finish as T.J. Bump won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.72 seconds.

Black Hawk senior Cody Foster topped the field in the 300-meter hurdles in 44.36 seconds.

Josh Krueger, an Albany junior, captured the pole vault, going over the bar at 10 feet, 6 inches and Monticello junior Reid Zanoya jumped 19-4 1/2 to win the long jump.

Girls

Black Hawk's Rachel Rygh and Katie Place, and Monticello's Kelsey Bernet each had a pair of first-place finishes, but it was River Ridge taking the team honors with 186.5 points at the Six Rivers Conference meet. Black Hawk was second with 103.5, Pecatonica-Argyle third with 98, Albany fifth with 65, and Monticello sixth with 42 points.

Rygh was victorious in the short sprints, taking first in the 100 in 13.63 and the 200 in 28.70.

Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Kendra Sigg took first in the 800 with a time of 2:36.

Bernet did what she does best - win the long distance sprints. She won the 1,600 in 5:43 and the 3,200 in 12:43.

Pecatonica-Argyle's 400 relay team of Holly Vlasak, Abby Flanagan, Brittany Ziller and Cassie Welsh came in first in 55.44 seconds, while the Vikings' 1,600 relay team of Emma Marion, Amanda Williams, Maureen Johanna and Kendra Sigg claimed a victory in 4:40.69. The 3,200 relay went to the Albany Comets as Tamiya Sandlin, Clara Kubesh, Hilary Best and Rosy Bauman took first place with a time of 11:25.

Black Hawk's Katie Place starred in the field events as she finished first in the long jump, going 14 -4 and first in the triple jump, topping everyone at 30-11 1/4.
