RIDGEWAY - The Wiota baseball team's postseason run came to a halt after a 7-3 loss to Ridgeway in the Home Talent Western Section playoffs on Sunday.

Wiota (11-7) jumped out to an early lead in the second inning when Ryan Von Haden led off with a single and Jay Haldiman doubled. Tommy Meier then delivered an RBI single to give the Indians a 1-0 lead.

Von Haden went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to help his own cause on the mound. The Indians left seven runners on base in the first four innings including five in scoring position.

"I knew that would come back and haunt us and it certainly did," Wiota co-manager Dick Schliem said.

The Indians regained the lead in the fifth. Brad Schleim walked and Jeff Solberg had a sacrifice bunt to move Schliem into scoring position. Von Haden then hit a two-run home run to give the Indians a 3-2 lead.

Ridgeway battled back in the bottom of the fifth and took the lead for good after Chris Thousand's two-run homer that put them up 4-3. Schliem and Meier each went 2-for-4.

Von Haden pitched eight innings and gave up seven runs (four earned) on eight hits. He struck out five and walked two.

Wiota will play at Cross Plains in the Night League playoffs on Thursday.
