MONONA - Monroe's girls track and field team finished fourth overall at Saturday's Monona Grove Invite.
The Cheesemakers won the 400-meter relay, with a time of 51.81 seconds. The squad - made up of freshman Lauren Werth, sophomore Jess Jackson, junior Molly Hlubek and senior Brenna Bazley - finished 8/10ths of a second ahead of Verona for the title.
Hlubek teamed with Maria Eberle, Jaclyn Ditter and Cheyenne Foster in the 800 relay to take third (1:50.64). The quartet was just .62 seconds behind champion Verona.
Allie Yurs, Rachel Rogerson, Foster and Hlubek teamed up to take second in the 1,600 relay - and with a time of 4:21.11 was just 3/10ths of a second behind winner Madison Edgewood.
Freshman Taylor Barrett was third in the high jump, reaching a mark of 4-feet, 8-inches. That was two inches behind the winner.
Jess Leu won the shot put, throwing 35-9.25. The mark was more than two feet ahead of Madison Memorial's Corrine Franz, who was second.
Middleton won the meet, Madison Edgewood was second and Verona came in third. There were 12 teams at the meet.
