Registration night slated for Sept. 19

MONROE - Monroe Youth Hockey Association will have registration for all new and returning hockey players from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at SLICE, 1632 4th Ave. West.

The 2012-13 season will be the first year of WIAA play for the high school team. Schools included in the co-op include Albany, Beloit Turner, Darlington, Freeport, Lena-Winslow, Monroe, Parkview and Pecatonica.

MYHA has programs for ages 3 years through high school. In addition, MYHA offers a U12 girls team and is one of the few organizations not to co-op with other hockey organizations to make up a girls-only team.

Hockey practice for Mites, Squirts, PeeWees, U12 Girls and Bantams will begin the week of Monday, Oct. 15. The Atoms team will begin practice Monday, Oct. 22. High school practices will begin Monday, Nov. 5.

Avalanche Hockey also sponsors the Cheese Days Chase on Saturday, Sept. 15. To register, visit www.cheesedayschase.com. Those who have pre-registered may pick up their race bags at the Avalanche Hockey food stand on Friday, Sept. 14.

Avalanche Hockey will sponsor the chili cook-off from 10 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 on the Square. In addition to chili and salsa, there will be food vendors, craft vendors, beer garden and live music. The Jimmys will play live from noon to 4 p.m.
