REEDSBURG - The Monroe baseball team did zero damage against Reedsburg ace Michael Ernstmeyer and dropped a 10-0 decision in five innings Friday.
The Cheesemakers (2-18) mustered just four singles total and only two over the first four innings off Ernstmeyer in losing their 15th straight game.
Junior Alex Einbeck had two of Monroe's hits while freshman Chase Hellenbrand and junior Mitch Riese had the others.
"We're still struggling identifying fastball early in the count and then we get ourselves into some not very ideal counts," Monroe coach Dustin Huffman said. "You have to be selective, but you also have to be aggressive early in the count when those fastballs are there to hit."
Monroe's best chance to score came in the fifth after Ernstmeyer had departed. Senior Kyle Cessna drew a one-out walk and Einbeck and Riese singled to load the bases with two outs. But junior Kevin Klopfenstein flew out to end the game.
"The two kids that got hits were aggressive early in the count," Huffman said.
Junior Cody Pivonka started and went 1 1/3 innings. He allowed five runs on six hits. Senior Jared Weber pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks. Junior Dusty Burkhalter pitched the fifth and did not allow a run.
Badger North Conference champion Reedsburg (17-4) scored two runs in the first inning and eight in the second.
