Redbirds topple Warriors

DARLINGTON - The Darlington boys basketball team turned to a trapping press to force the issue as it ran away with a 74-53 non-conference win over Black Hawk on Saturday.

"The first 10 minutes we were competing and battling," Black Hawk coach Charlie Anderson said. "They are a good team. Hopefully, this will make us better."

The Redbirds switched to a press defense and forced some turnovers that led to points in transition. Darlington junior Ryan Glendenning and junior Josh Soper each scored a team-high 12 points. Junior teammate Will Schwartz added 10 points. The Redbirds made eight 3-pointers led by junior Chad Golackson, senior Hunter Wilkinson and Glendenning, who each made two 3-pointers.

Black Hawk (3-2, 2-1 Six Rivers East) was led by sophomore Jason Treuthardt who scored a team-high 12 points. Junior teammate Josh Meier added 11 points and C.J. Leuzinger chipped in 10 points and made two 3-pointers.

With the win, Darlington improves to 5-1, 2-1 SWAL. The Redbirds are in a second-place tie in the league with Fennimore and Cuba City. All three teams trail Iowa-Grant by one game.



Shullsburg 58, Juda 45

PLATTEVILLE - Juda junior Matt Schmitt scored a team-high 19 points, but Shullsburg knocked off the Panthers 58-45 in a Six Rivers Jamboree game Saturday at Bo Ryan Court at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

Schmitt made two 3-pointers and was 5 of 6 at the free throw line. Juda sophomore Keagen Haffele added 14 points and hit two 3-pointers.

Shullsburg's Noah Wand scored a game-high 21 points and drilled four 3-pointers and Hunter Matye added 15 points. With the win, Shullsburg improves to 4-1, 2-0 Six Rivers West.

With the loss, Juda drops to 2-4, 0-2 Six Rivers East. It marked the fourth straight loss for the Panthers.



New Glarus 90, Nekoosa 69

WISCONSIN DELLS - New Glarus senior Gavin Binger and freshman Zach Feller combined scored 32 points to help the Glarner Knights snap a three-game losing streak after running to a 90-69 win over Nekoosa at JustAGame Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Both Binger and Feller scored a team-high 16 points to propel the Knights. Freshman teammate Jaden Kreklow added 13 points and senior Trey Taylor had 13 points.

Cullen Brooks and Austin Schlueter each chipped in nine points for the Knights. New Glarus made nine 3-pointers led by Feller who hit three from behind the arc.



Barneveld 66, Monticello 21

PLATTEVILLE - Barneveld senior Bryce Arneson scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Eagles to a 66-21 win over Monticello in a Six Rivers Jamboree game at UW-Platteville on Saturday.

Barneveld (4-2, 3-0 Six Rivers East) raced out to a 38-11 lead in the first half. Barneveld junior Matthew Myers added 13 points.

Monticello senior Logan Marty scored a team-high eight points to lead the Ponies. With the loss, Monticello drops to 0-6, 0-3.
