LIVINGSTON - Darlington junior Kathleen Mathias scored a team-high 18 points and the Redbirds routed Iowa-Grant 69-33 to clinch the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League championship Thursday.
Darlington (17-4, 13-1 SWAL) raced out to a 39-11 lead at the half. The Redbirds had a balanced scoring attack with three players in double figures. Darlington junior Kaylee Meyers had 13 points, senior Kennedy Rankin 10 and senior Chelise Goalckson 8.
Darlington, which made a run to the sectional last year, received a No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the WIAA Division 4 regional tournament that starts Tuesday. The Redbirds will host the winner of seventh-seeded Wisconsin Heights and 10th-seeded Luther Feb. 23.
Black Hawk 57, Pecatonica 7
SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk girls basketball team gave up just one field goal and rolled to a win over Pecatonica in the regular season finale Thursday.
Warriors sophomore Natalie Leuzinger scored a game-high 17 points and freshman Bailey Butler added 15. Black Hawk (22-0, 12-0 Six Rivers East), ranked No. 1 in both the Division 5 Associated Press and WisSports.net state polls, raced out to a 40-2 lead at the half.
The lone basket for the Vikings came from freshman Emily Zimmerman on a 3-pointer in the second half. Zimmerman scored a 5 points. Black Hawk started four seniors on Senior Night.
"It was a nice way to pay tribute to those kids," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "It was a nice way to end the regular season with contributions from a lot of people."
Albany 46, Juda 23
JUDA - Albany senior Haley Freitag scored a game-high 12 points to help the Comets cruise to a win over Juda Thursday.
Albany (9-13, 6-6 Six Rivers East) jumped out to an 18-7 lead at the half. Comets senior Brook Kahler scored 10, junior Payton Zurfluh 9 and junior Libby Beck 8. Juda senior MacKenzie Byrne scored a team-high 6 points.
The two teams will face each other again in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal game on Tuesday in Albany. Juda finishes the season with an 8-12 overall record and 4-8 in conference.
In other action, Big Foot topped Brodhead 59-48. With the loss, Brodhead drops to 9-12 overall and 6-11 in the Rock Valley.
