Redbirds sweep SWAL titles

CUBA CITY - The Darlington girls track team showed its dominance in the distance events as it rolled to a Southwest Activities League championship on Tuesday.

Darlington outdueled Cuba City for the championship 176-148.5.

The Darlington boys also won a SWAL title, rolling 198-115 over runner-up Fennimore.

The Redbirds girls swept the top three spots in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. Sophomore Ilse Mendez won the conference title in the 1,600 with a time of 6 minutes, 14.91 seconds. Junior Reghan Komprood finished second (6:14.98) and senior Paige Schilling took third (6:17.22). Darlington Komprood won the 3,200 in 13:42.89, junior Emma Crist finished second (13:512.19), and senior Bailey McDonald was third (14:04.31).

Schilling won the conference championship in the 800 (2:31.64) and junior Hunter Weber captured the title in the pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches). Senior Taryn Rankin won the discus (114-2).

The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team of Crist, Mendez, Schilling and junior Erin Wolf won the race with a time of 11:20.14. Meyers teamed with junior Meghan Douglas, freshman Lizzie Schwartz and junior Kennedy Rankin to take second in the 1,600 relay (4:31.96). Schwartz placed second in the 300 hurdles (50.95).

Darlington sophomore Kathleen Mathias took second in the 400 (1:06.66), second in the 200 (27.25) and third in the 100 (13.3). Senior Sadie Fitzsimons placed second in the triple jump (31-9) and third in the long jump (15-1).

The Redbirds' 800 relay team of senior Sadie Fitzsimons, sophomore McKenna Leuchtenmacher, freshman Maddie Crist and sophomore Kaylee Meyers took second (1:57.20). The Redbirds' 1,600 relay team of Douglas, Schwartz, Meyers and Kennedy Rankin took second (4:31.96). The Redbirds' 400 relay team finished third (55.48). In the SWAL boys meet, Darlington junior Grady Rielly won conference titles in the 110 high hurdles (15.71) and the 300 hurdles (42.70).

Senior Conner Hackett won the 3,200 (10:48.45) and took second in the 1,600 (4:50.6). Hackett teamed with junior Tanner Evenstad, sophomore Tucker Lange and sophomore Trae Schilling to win the 3,200 relay (9:11.29). Darlington senior Trevor Johnson finished second in the 100 (11.63), second in the long jump (18-9), third in the 200 (23.40) and third in the 400 (56.51). Junior Curtis Blosch took second in the 400 (54.80) and junior Kameron Blosch was third in the 100 (11.65). In the 800, Lange finished second (2:06.17) and Evenstad placed third (2:09.3). Evenstad was also third in the 1,600 (4:53.66). Senior Mitchell Wagner took second in the 110 hurdles (16.10), second in the high jump (5-11) and second in the triple jump (39-6). He placed third in the 300 hurdles (43.83). Junior Paul King placed second in the 3,200 (11:01.85).

Rielly teamed with junior Tyler Mosley, sophomore Blake Whalen and senior Jared Meister to take second in the 800 relay (1:39.75). Kameron Blosch teamed with sophomore Kolbe Ubersox, Meister and Curtis Blosch to finish second in the 1,600 relay (3:44.89). The Redbirds' 400 relay team placed third (47.69).
