DARLINGTON - It was a clean sweep for the Darlington girls and boys track teams.
The Darlington girls track team defeated Pecatonica-Argyle in a dual meet, 105-36 on Thursday. The Redbirds won 13 of the 18 events. In the boys dual meet, the Redbirds won 17 of the 18 events en route to a 122-19 victory.
Darlington's Chayse Hermanson won the long jump (14-feet 2 1/2 inches) and the triple jump (27-8 1/4).
The Redbirds won three of the four relays including the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter relays. In the 800 relay, Kelsi Blosch, Hermanson, Elizabeth Mathias and Hannah Huffman took first with a time of 1 minute, 55.48 seconds.
Hermanson also teamed up with Lisa Kreidler, Hana Miehe and Kayla Lange to win the 1,600 in 4:29.65, which was more than four seconds faster than the Vikings.
Pecatonica senior Elise Sigg finished first in the 800 (2:35.61) and in the 1,600 (5:31).
Darlington dominated the hurdles by sweeping the top two spots in both the 100 and 300 hurdles. Kreidler won both the 100 hurdles (:18.85) and the 300 hurdles (:54.38).
Huffman took first in the 200 (:27.82), Ciara Wiegel finished first in the 400 (1:08.21). Amy Jorgenson won the 3,200 (12:53.65) and Mathias took the top spot in the high jump (4-7). The Redbirds also swept the top three spots in the shot put. McKenzie Pickett finished first in the shot put with a throw of 29-4.
In the pole vault, the Redbirds took the top three spots led by Chelsea Fortin who won the event at 7-6.
Pecatonica's Holly Vlasak won the 100 (:14.06) and she teamed with Cassie Welch, Alisha Esselstein and Brittany Ziller to win the 400 relay with a time of 55.96 seconds.
In the boys dual meet, Darlington won 17 of the 18 events. Darlington sophomore Alex Erickson won the 200 (:23.76) and the long jump (20-2 1/2). Erickson was a key component of the winning 800 and 1,600 relays. In the 800 relay, Erickson teamed up with Jordan Bryson, Trynton Schwartz and Lincoln Bryson to win the race with a time of 1:39.40, which was about three seconds ahead of the Vikings.
Erickson teamed up with Nick King, Cody Erickson and Cedric Flesher to win the 1,600 relay by just one second.
Darlington senior Jeff Reichling finished first in both the shot put (53-2) and the discus (147-8) as the Redbirds swept the top three spots in both events.
The only win posted by the Vikings was by senior Lee Vlasak in the 100 (:11.36).
Darlington's Jordan Heinberg took first in both the 400 (:57.28) and the 3,200 (11:14.67). Braden Zywicki won the 110 hurdles (:16.93) and the triple jump (38-2).
The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team of Sam Johnson, Michael Sinclair, Kent Miehe and Destin Komprood won the race with a time of 9:44.72, which was about one second ahead of the Vikings.
Connor Roche won the 800 (2:22.83) and Markus Garrison finished first in the 1,600 (5:11.13). Bruce King took the top spot in the high jump with a jump of 6-0. Reid Halvorson took the top spot in the 300 hurdles (:49.71) and Mitchell Whalen finished first in the pole vault (9-0).
