Redbirds suffer first loss; Pec tops Orioles

PLATTEVILLE - The Darlington Rebirds suffered their first loss of the season in girls basketball, losing to the Platteville Hillmen Tuesday, 42-38.

The Redbirds led 25-24 to start the fourth quarter, but the Hillmen outscored Darlington 18-13 in the final period to grab the win.

Darlington had a rough night at the free throw line, making just 13 of 31 attempts.

Senior Ashley Martin scored 13 points for the Redbirds, who dropped to 3-1 overall. Darlington also got eight points from junior Kelsey Fink.

The Redbirds (2-0 SWAL) will host Riverdale Thursday night in SWAL Conference action.

Pecatonica 48,

Argyle 32

BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica Vikings jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter en route to a 48-32 win over the Orioles Tuesday. The game had been originally been scheduled for Dec. 8, but snow forced it to be postponed.

Senior Kimee Chandler had a double-double for the Vikings by scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. She also had five steals.

Senior Kaitlyn Linder also provided a spark for Pecatonica with seven points and six steals.

The Orioles were led by sophomore Katie Dammen (nine points) and sophomore Danielle Treuthardt (six points).

Pecatonica (3-2, 1-1 Six Rivers East) will host Juda Thursday night. Argyle (1-3, 0-2 Six Rivers East) will host Beloit Turner in a non-conference game Tuesday, Dec. 22.

Big Foot 56,

Brodhead 45

WALWORTH - The Brodhead Cardinals dropped their Rock Valley South conference opener to Big Foot Tuesday, 56-45.

After trailing 15-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Cardinals (2-2 overall, 0-1 Rock Valley South) crawled to within 28-25 at halftime but couldn't get any closer.

Dana Lewis paced the Cardinals with 17 points and Taylor Douglas scored 10. Brodhead's next game will be Friday night against Beloit Turner.
