DARLINGTON - After committing four errors in the first two innings of their game against Fennimore, the Darlington baseball team dug deep and came back to win a close 8-7 matchup that lasted eight innings.

Fennimore scored four runs off of the Redbird's mishaps in the early innings, but by the bottom of the fourth inning, Darlington came alive. Junior Ben Muhlstein gave his team the much-needed boost after his three-run homer tied the game at 4. With momentum on their side, the Redbirds scored the deciding run late in the eighth inning.

"It was nice to see us come alive and respond," Darlington coach Matt Austin said. "We make it a point to try and move on to the next play, situation or game, and we sort of did that tonight."

Cole McDonald pitched the first six innings for the Redbirds before freshman Jesse Sturtz came in for relief work and picked up the win.

"We wanted to give him (Jesse) a shot," Austin said. "He hasn't pitched all too much for us, (but) he's a strong-armed kid, and once he settled down he got us out of a couple jams."

Jason Singer batted 2-for-5, including two doubles for Darlington. Cody Hardyman (2-for-5) and Aric Geissbuhler (2-for-3) also had strong performances at the plate.

Darlington will host Riverdale on Thursday.

WATERLOO - After being no-hit in their shutout game against Wisconsin Heights on Tuesday, the Knights fell to Waterloo, 12-0.

Early struggles continued to plague the Knights, as the host Pirates raced out to a 9-0 lead after the first inning. Already behind, New Glarus failed to score, and Waterloo added to their lead before the game ended.

The Knights as a team had four hits and one error.

Barneveld 15, Black Hawk 0

BARNEVELD - Facing the second-ranked team in Division 4, along with their conference's leader, the Black Hawk baseball team was no-hit in their 15-0 stomping of the host Golden Eagles.

Barneveld pitcher Carson Carmody nearly threw a perfect game, as the only error on the senior's night was one walked batter. Carmody struck out 11 in his team's shutout.

As a team the Eagles scored seven, five, and three runs in the game's first three innings.

Black Hawk will play a doubleheader against Belmont on Tuesday.
