Redbirds shine at meet

DARLINGTON - Multiple teams from the area gathered in Darlington for the Redbird Invitational on Thursday to showcase their talents and measure the competition.

For the boys, Black Hawk's Jayden Rufenacht displayed his speed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, where he placed first in both events. Darlington's Payton Steiner and Trevor Johnson finished second and third respectively to round out the top three in the 200 meters.

Darlington's Dane Siegenthaler (400 meters), Thomas Shultz (800 meters), Tyson Miehe (1,600 and 3,200), Kyle Johnson (110- and 300-meter hurdles), Mitchell Wagner (high jump), Cole Trumble (triple jump), and AJ Coulthard (discus) placed first in their respective events. Also adding to the Redbirds slew of first-place finishes were the 800, 1,600, and 3,200 relay teams.

On the girls side, Black Hawk senior Jen Wellnitz finished first in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, as well as the long and triple jumps for the Warriors. Also turning in a first-place finish for Black Hawk was Olivia Holland in the 300 hurdles. For Pecatonica/Argyle, Hannah Swenson finished third in the 100 dash. Josie Penniston captured third-place finishes in both the 200 and 400 dash. Distance runner Samantha Erickson finished third in the 3,200 run, while teammate Cassidy Steiner also finished third in the shot put.

Darlington's Johanna Meister finished second in the 1,600 meters, while the 1,600-meter relay team finished first with a time of 4 minutes, 31.42 seconds. In the 3,200-meter relay, the Redbirds again claimed the top spot, followed by the Black Hawk and Pec/Argyle relay teams in second and third place, respectively.
