Redbirds run to third at Tri-State

PLATTEVILLE - The Darlington boys track team showed its strength in several relays at the Tri-State small schools Invitational on Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

The Darlington boys track team finished third out of 20 teams with 63 points. Northeast (98) captured the team title over runner-up Lodi (81). Brodhead-Juda took fifth (49), Albany placed 15th (10) and Sugar River was 18th (3).

Darlington junior Tanner Evenstad won the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10 minutes, 35.12 seconds. Junior teammate Paul King took third (10:56.27) in the same race.

Evenstad teamed with King, sophomore Tucker Lange and sophomore Trae Schilling to help the Redbirds win the 3,200 relay (8:59.47).

Darlington's 1,600 relay team of senior Alvaro Barrera, junior Grady Rielly, senior Jared Meister and junior Curtis Blosch took second (3:47.73). Brodhead-Juda's 1,600-relay team placed third (3:49.24).

Brodhead-Juda's 800-relay team of junior Brekan Day, sophomore Jeff Williams, senior Ruben Larson and senior Jack Speckman finished first (1:39.10). The Redbirds' 800-relay team took third (1:40.29).

Day finished second in the high jump (6 feet, 3 inches) and senior teammate Jeff Moss took third (5-10).

Brodhead-Juda junior Justice Tway took third in the 400 (56.74) and Williams finished fourth in the 55 (6.99).

Darlington senior Conner Hackett finished fourth in the 1,600 (4:53.68) and Barrera placed fourth in the 400 (57.55).

In the girls' meet, Cascade won the team title racking up 127 points, which was well ahead of runner-up Lodi (75). Brodhead-Juda finished third (45) out of 20 teams. Darlington took 10th (24) and Sugar River tied Boscobel for 12th (16).

Brodhead-Juda junior Madee Harding finished second in the 55-meter dash (7.66 seconds) and second in the high jump (4 feet, 10 inches).

Sugar River senior Noelle Marie took second in the 1,600 (5:29.75).

Brodhead-Juda's 800 relay team of senior Miranda Ryser, sophomore Taylor Adkins, sophomore Abbey Johnson and junior Erin Nyhus won the race with a time of 1:54.96.

The Cardinals' 1,600 relay team of junior Morgan Tresemer, Nyhus, Johnson and junior Cora Purdue took second (4:32.80).

Darlington junior Hunter Weber finished second in the pole vault (9-3). Albany sophomore Libby Beck placed third in the shot put (33-8).

Darlington's 800 relay team took fourth (2:00.94).
