DARLINGTON - The Redbirds collected their first win on the season knocking off New Glarus 10-5. After New Glarus opened the game with two runs, Darlington and coach Karen Bennet knew that in order for their team to have any hope, they would need to respond.

"They (New Glarus) came out strong," Bennett said. "We always try to make it a point to respond with some runs of our own any time another team gets on board."

After the Redbirds came off the field in the bottom of the first, it was their time to put the bats into play. Darlington stormed back with five runs to take the lead. Both teams traded scores in the third inning, but Darlington pulled away with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Tara Reichling picked up the win on the mound for Darlington. Michaela Thomas went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, while Mariah Wiegel went 2-for-3 with a triple.

"It's great to finally get that monkey off your back," Bennet said of her team's first win. "Hopefully, now this confidence can carry onward and give us some momentum moving forward."

Juda-Albany 11, Amherst 1

Juda-Albany 12, South Beloit 1

POYNETTE - The Juda-Albany softball team swept their tournament doubleheader on Friday in Poynette, running away with convincing victories over Amherst and South Beloit. Juda-Albany beat Amherst 11-1 in their first matchup and pummeled South Beloit 12-1 in their second game.

Juda-Albany made quick work of Amherst, finishing the game in five innings after a barrage of hits allowed Juda-Albany to take an early lead. Morganne Goecks, Tabatha Davis, and Molly Marass all went 3-for-4 against Amherst. Freshman Alexis Goecks was 3-for-3.

Although their second game against South Beloit lasted all seven innings, the end result was much the same for Juda-Albany. In their 12-1 victory, Juda-Albany compiled 21 total hits, while senior Tabatha Davis took care of business on the mound.

"Overall, we hit the ball very well," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "We were able to take control of these games early on, and that only helps your team with momentum."

Argyle 3, Barneveld 0

ARGYLE - Fresh off of their blowout win over conference foe Pecatonica Thursday, the Argyle softball team pulled off a convincing 3-0 victory Friday over the Golden Eagles.

Jessica Treuthardt pitched a three-hit shutout on the mound for the Orioles. The senior ace pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits, two walks and one strikeout. But it wasn't just a strong performance by Treuthardt that propelled the Orioles in their win. As Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert points out, solid defensive play in the field was just as important.

"We had great fielding," Ganshert said. "They (Barneveld) were able to make contact with the ball, (but) our defense did a great job in making plays."

With their defense doing their part, the Orioles mustered just enough runs in order to get the win. Argyle scored one run in the first and two in the fourth.

Junior Hannah Saalsaa went 2-for-3 with two doubles for Argyle.
