CAMBRIDGE - Darlington senior Kent Miehe scored a team-high 21 points, but the Redbirds' season came to an end after a 73-61 loss to Cambridge in a WIAA Division 4 regional championship game Monday night.
Miehe scored 17 points with five 3-pointers in the first half to lead the Redbirds. As a team, Darlington (15-9) made six 3-pointers in the first half and led 36-32 at the break.
The Blue Jays scored seven unanswered points in the third quarter and outscored the Redbirds 18-6 to take a 50-42 lead going into the fourth. Cambridge's Nic Bowe scored a game-high 23 points, and Darlington senior Brandon Hardyman had 17.
Cuba City 89, New Glarus 41
CUBA CITY - Cuba City's Corey Vaassen and Trent Denlinger combined to score 45 points as the Cubans rolled to a big win over the Glarner Knights in a WIAA Division 4 regional final.
Vaassen scored a game-high 24 points, and Denlinger added 21. Cuba City jumped out to a 22-9 first quarter lead and led by 21 points at halftime.
New Glarus sophomore Trae VandeBerg scored a team-high nine points to lead the Knights. New Glarus senior Tyler Kreklow added eight points. Cuba City will play Cambridge in a sectional semifinal in Monroe on Thursday.
Randolph 55, Monticello 32
RANDOLPH - Monticello's postseason run came to an end with a loss at Randolph in a WIAA Division 5 regional title game.
Randolph led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Ponies (16-9) were outscored 8-2 in the second quarter and trailed by 11 points at halftime.
"The biggest difference was their defense," Monticello coach Mark Olson said. "They are very difficult to score on. We always talk about taking the ball to the rim and getting to the foul line."
The Ponies shot just two free throws and were outscored 35-23 in the second half. Monticello senior Austin Steffen scored a team-high 11 points and senior Lukas Kolasch added seven. Monticello senior Brad Bernet hit a 3-pointer late.
