DARLINGTON - Darlington started it's season off on the right foot Tuesday night, defeating Argyle at home, 49-36.
The Redbirds were led in scoring by Cassidy Chambers, who scored 21 points.
"Chambers was very aggressive attacking the basket," Darlington coach Riley Fitzsimons said. "Argyle came out and played a press, and she was able to get to the basket and get to the line quite a bit. She really played well as a guard, being able to handle the ball and get to the rim.
Fitzsimons said that the key for the Redbirds was being able to overcome their foul trouble. Darlington put Argyle to the free throw line 37 times during the game.
"You don't win to many games when you let the other team get to the line 37 times, so overcoming our foul situation was important for us," Fitzsimons said.
Argyle featured a balanced scoring attack, with nine players recording points for the Orioles. Jessica Treuhardt led Argyle with seven points.
River Valley 46, Pecatonica 42
BLANCHARDVILLE - The Pecatonica girls started their season off with a tough loss Tuesday night, falling to River Valley, 46-42.
The Vikings trailed by 17 at halftime but stormed back in the third quarter to erase the deficit and take a one-point lead going in to the fourth.
"That was one of the fastest comebacks I've seen in prep sports," Pecatonica coach Matt Bakkum said of his Vikings. "The team I saw in the third quarter is the team I see most of the time in practice. They need that focus and intensity the entire game."
"Unfortunately, it's hard to maintain the level of energy they needed to make the comeback for an entire half."
The third quarter comeback was fueled by Michelle Francois, who scored all 11 of her points in the third. Lizzy Britt added 10 points.
Juda 48, Cassville 45
CASSVILLE - Juda starter their season with an exciting overtime win in Cassville, knocking off the Comets, 48-45.
Jessica Rackow, Tabatha Davis, and Brittany Moe each scored in double digits. Rackow led the Panthers with 13 points, while Davis contributed 12 and Moe added 10.
"Davis and Rackow really had good nights for us," Juda coach Curt Brown said. "Davis played well in the post, and Rackow did a nice job of handling the ball and going into the post when we needed her to."
According to Brown, the difference in overtime for the Panthers was their experience.
"Cassville is a much improved team from last year," he said. "We didn't really know what to expect coming in because they're a young team. In the overtime, I think our experience from the last couple years really took over."
Brown said he has been pleased with his team's improvement.
"We've improved a lot just from last week, which was the first week of practice, and from our scrimmage on Saturday," he said.
