Redbirds, E-A notch victories

DARLINGTON - Junior quarterback Blake Whalen had three touchdowns to lead the Darlington football team to a 43-7 win over Southwestern.

Whalen hooked up with senior Grady Rielly on a 95-yard TD pass in the first quarter to spark the Redbirds. Whalen also had a 31-yard TD run in a 21-point first quarter for the Redbirds. Whalen completed 3 of 4 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

Darlington's Kameron Blosch had a 47-yard TD run and caught a 21-yard TD pass in the second quarter to help the Redbirds build a 36-0 lead at the half. Blosch rushed for 109 yards on 11 carries.

With the win, Darlington improves to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the SWAL.



Evansville-Albany 50, East Troy 42

EVANSVILLE - Senior quarterback Zach Mielke passed for 349 yards and tossed three touchdowns to lead Evansville-Albany to a shootout win over rival East Troy Friday.

The Blue Devils (4-3) overcame Jake Dessart's 25-yard TD pass to Eli Newhouse with 4:14 left to give the East Troy Trojans the lead. Evansville-Albany's Brady Markee had an 8-yard TD run late in the third quarter to help the Blue Devils reclaim the lead at 47-42. Sam Urquhart booted a 34-yard field goal with 3:18 left in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

The two teams combined for 1,135 yards in the shootout. Evansville-Albany racked up 535 total yards and East Troy had 606 total yards.

Dessart rushed for 281 yards on 28 carries and scored four touchdowns. Evansville-Albany's Sam Haegele had four receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns, and teammate Sulley Geske had three catches for 91 yards and one touchdown. Tony Paschal added 98 yards on 18 carries and a score for the Blue Devils.

Evansville-Albany (4-3 Rock Valley) travels to Brodhead-Juda (2-5) next week. With a win, the Blue Devils would qualify for the WIAA playoffs.



Whitewater 28, Brodhead 27

BRODHEAD - Senior Jeffrey Williams rushed for 143 yards on 27 carries and scored two touchdowns, but Brodhead-Juda's comeback bid came up just short in a 28-27 loss to Whitewater.

With Brodhead-Juda (2-5) trailing by nine points in the fourth quarter, Marco Bueno had a 4-yard TD run with 1:32 to go. Senior quarterback Parker Johnson threw a two-point conversion pass to Jace Morris, but the Whippets survived 28-27.

The Cardinals tried a fake punt in the final minute of the first half leading 7-0, but failed to get to the line to gain. Whitewater marched down the field and scored with under 20 seconds to go. Williams then took the ensuing kickoff return all the way to the 3-yard-line. With one second on the clock before half, the Cardinals's last play came up short of the end zone.

Bueno rushed for 57 yards on seven carries and scored one touchdown. Johnson completed 8 of 14 passes for 90 yards. Senior Brekan Day had five receptions for 66 yards.
