Redbirds cruise at own meet

DARLINGTON - Behind a strong performance by Darlington junior Alex Erickson, the Redbird boys track team ran away and won a quad meet Thursday.

The Darlington boys track team won the meet in dominating fashion by winning 16 of the 18 events.

Erickson won the 100-meter dash (:11.22), 200 (:23.54), long jump (20-feet, 9-inches) and he was on the winning 1,600 relay.

The Redbirds won all four relays. The Redbirds outdistanced Scales Mound 231-46.5 for the team title. Pecatonica-Argyle's Wyatt Massey finished first in the 800 (2:11.71) as the Vikings finished fourth 34) behind last place Belmont (11.5).

Darlington junior Tucker Wiegel finished first in the 400 (:53.82) and Connor Roche won the 1,600 (4:57.14). Michael Sinclair took the top spot in the 3,200 (11:03.99) and Mitchell Wedig won the 300 hurdles (:45.93).

Mitchell Whalen took first in the pole vault (11-0), Bruce King won the high jump (6-0) and Braden Zywicki finished first in the triple jump (38-2). Zach Brown won the discus (114-7) and Bryson took first in the shot put (40-11 3/4).

Darlington's Hannah Huffman, the Redbird girls track team ran away winning a quad meet Friday.

Huffman won the 100-meter dash (:13.22), 400 (1:04.49) and the long jump (13-feet, 9 3/4 inches).

The Redbirds defeated second place Pecatonica-Argyle, 237-51.

Darlington's Lisa Kreidler won both the 100 hurdles (:17.76) and 300 hurdles (:52.82).

Pecatonica-Argyle's Kendra Sigg finished first in the 1,600 (5:48.34). The Vikings' 400 relay team took first with a time of 56.16 seconds.

The Redbirds also received first place finishes from Elizabeth Mathias in the 200 (:30.46) and triple jump (28-4 1/4), Hannah Robiolio in the 800 (2:46.23), Cassidy Chambers in the high jump (4-7) and Kara Krahenbuhl in the pole vault (9-0).

The Redbirds won three of the four relays including the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.
