Redbirds, Comets run SWAL titles

DARLINGTON - The Darlington boys cross country team dominated the Southwest Wisconsin Activities League meet Thursday, placing five runners in the top 11 to capture the league title for the eighth straight year.

The Redbirds ran away with the championship with 31 points, outdistancing runner-up Boscobel (50) and third-place Albany (70).

Albany junior Ciara Kaderly won the girls individual conference championship, finishing the 5,000-meter race in a time of 19 minutes, 40.8 seconds to lead the Comets to a conference title.

Senior Jaden Komprood led the Darlington boys with a second-place finish in 16:52.2. Boscobel senior Dakota Kauffman was the individual conference champion (16:42.9).

Darlington freshman Payton Heinberg took fourth (17:32.4), and sophomore Tanner Evenstad was sixth (17:39.5). Senior teammate Sean Barbee finished eighth (17:43.8), and senior Blake Cwynar was 11th (18:11.8).

Albany was led by the brother duo of Tyler and Josh Dahl. Senior Tyler took seventh (17:42.2), and freshman Josh was 10th (17:56.8). Junior Isaac Halverson took 16th (18:43.6), and senior Josh Little finished 18th (18:50). Junior Connor Trow who was 19th (18:55.8).

Pecatonica-Argyle finished last (223) in the eight-team meet. The top runner for the Vikings was junior Joey Boland who took 37th (20:44.3) out of 50 runners.

In the girls SWAL meet, Albany had five runners crack the top 10. Besides conference champion Kaderly, Albany sophomore Emma Guenther finished third (21:29), senior Emily Hauri took fourth (21:33.6), freshman Kirsten Oliver placed fifth (21:42) and freshman Megan Anderson was ninth (22:03.9).

Albany ran away with the title outdistancing Boscobel 22-45. Darlington finished third (64) and Pecatonica-Argyle (132) was fourth.

Darlington sophomore Reghan Komprood took sixth (21:56.3), and sophomore Erin Wolf was seventh (21:58.6). Fellow sophomore Emma Crist finished 16th (22:49.9), and freshman Ilse Mendez was 17th (22:55.8) followed by sophomore Meghan Douglas in 18th (23:09.6).

Junior Josie Penniston ran to a 11th-place finish (22:15.1) to lead Pecatonica-Argyle. The Vikings had four runners in the top 36 out of 72 runners. Senior Hannah James took 25th (24:31.8), and senior Samantha Erickson finished 28th (24:50.7). Junior Adriana Johnson finished 32nd (26:22.2), and freshman Abby Loomis was 36th (28:35.8).
