INDIANAPOLIS — University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and UW-Platteville have received bids into the NCAA Division III Football Championship.
UW-La Crosse (7-3) claimed one of 12 at-large bids into the 40-team field, while UW-Platteville (9-1) secured an automatic bid after winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.
UW-La Crosse will host University of Northwestern-St. Paul (Minn.) (7-3) in a first round contest with the winner facing Saint John’s University (Minn.) (10-0) in the second round. UW-La Crosse is making its fourth straight NCAA appearance and 15th overall.
La Crosse has three local players on its roster — Cole Walter (New Glarus), Dain Walter (New Glarus) and Ethan Hendrickson (Darlington).
UW-Platteville will travel to Wartburg College (Iowa) (9-1) for a second round matchup. This will mark the Pioneers’ third NCAA showing and first since 2016.
All first round games will be held Nov. 23, while second round contests will take place Nov. 30.
