Point leaders widen advantages at Lafayette County Speedway

DARLINGTON — In the last week of racing before the season championship, the points leaders at Lafayette County Speedway stretched their summer leads.

All five race class leaders are ahead by at least 10 points. Jamie Pfeiffer of Freeport is 28 points ahead of second place DJ Sweet of Georgetown in the Late Models class, while in the Hobby Stock division, David Crimmins of Dubuque is 25 points in front of Monroe’s Thomas Wood.

Hazel Green’s Jason Roth and Benton’s Eric Beau lead the Sport Modifieds and Four Cylinder classes by 11 points. In the Modifieds class, Jeff Larson of Freeport has a 10-point lead on Mike Fryer, also of Freeport.

In the Aug. 14 races, Pfieffer won the Late Models race, finishing ahead of Jeff Parks of Lena and Dubuque’s Steve Schueller. Sweet was fourth. In the Hobby Stock race, Dakota Simonsen of Fairfax, Iowa, edged out Hollandale’s Jimmy Doescher and Crimmins for the checkered flag.

Derek Thompson won the Modifieds race, finishing ahead of Larson and Matt Crist of Darlington. In the Sport Modifieds race, Roth took first place, with Kyle Hoffman of Benton crossing the finish line second and Kyle Neels of Freeport third.

Dylan Kuhl of Dickeyville won the Four Cylinder race, with Beau taking second and Benton’s Jonathon Walton third.

The season championship is scheduled to run Aug. 21. The night will also feature back-to-school giveaways for students. Hot Laps begin at 6:45 p.m.
