NG grad Zimmerman named Academic All-American

WHITEWATER —  Landon Zimmerman, a native of New Glarus and graduate of New Glarus High School and junior on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s track and field team, earned third team 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America for Division III Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Zimmerman, the Warhawks’ fourth Academic All-America selection since 2011, carried a 3.99 grade point average on a 4.0 scale through the fall 2018 semester. He is majoring in accounting.

Zimmerman, who was eligible for Academic All-America status after being named first team All-District 6 in May, is one of 45 honorees, including one of 15 on the third team.

A team co-captain in 2019, Zimmerman qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the shot put, placing 17th overall. He finished among the top five in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in the shot put at both the indoor and outdoor championship meets, and was eighth in the weight throw at the indoor meet.

Zimmerman established personal records in three of his four throwing events during the 2019 campaign. He is a four-time WIAC placer during his career.

Zimmerman garnered United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic standing in 2018. He is a two-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
