MADISON — Monroe graduate Sydney Hilliard continues to impress in her freshman season with the Wisconsin Badgers. Hilliard finished with 14 points, including eight straight in a key stretch, as the Badgers rallied to beat Wofford 78-65 Nov. 10.

Wisconsin led 25-23 after the first quarter but fell behind 39-36 at halftime. The deficit reached five at 41-36 at the beginning of the third quarter, but the Badgers tore off a 24-7 run over an 8-minute stretch to take a 60-48 lead headed into the fourth.

Hilliard had four points in the first half and added a bucket during the third quarter run, but it was her hot start in the fourth that helped key the Badgers win.

Hilliard scored on a fastbreak layup and then knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers in a 68-second stretch to put Wisconsin up 20 and force a Wofford timeout.

Suzanne Gilreath led the Badgers with 21 points, while Imani Lewis added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kendra Van Leeuwan had eight rebounds, 11 assists and five points. Hilliard also had five rebounds.

Wisconsin (2-0) travels to Colorado Nov. 14 before hosting Milwaukee Nov. 17 at the Kohl Center.
