GREEN BAY — The Green Bay Packers hired former Pecatonica High School star Milt Hendrickson as the team’s director of football operations Jan. 24. He replaces Russ Ball, who was promoted to executive vice president.
Hendrickson, a 1992 Pecatonica graduate and Blanchardville native, recently worked as a national scout for the Baltimore Ravens. He was a training-camp intern for the Packers in the summer of 2004.
In high school, Hendrickson starred in football, baseball and basketball and was elected into the Vikings Hall of Fame in 2016. When he graduated, Hendrickson was the school’s all-time leading scorer, since surpassed by A.J. Hendrickson, a 2017 graduate.
Hendrickson played football and baseball at Luther College. He later earned his master’s degree in exercise and sports science and sports administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Packers general manager Brian Gutenkunst met Hendrickson while also attending La Crosse and working under UW-La Crosse football coach Roger Harring in 1996.
Before Gutekunst was named general manager, Ted Thompson had Eliot Wolf, son of former Packers GM Ron Wolf, as the director of football operations. Wolf left last year to join former packer brass Jon Dorsey in Cleveland. Gutekunst tried to hire Hendrickson last offseason, but the Ravens denied the Packers permission.
Hendrickson joined the Ravens in 2005, hired by GM Ozzie Newsome as a player personnel assistant. Hendrickson went on to be a regional scout in the Midwest for the Ravens before being promoted to national scout in 2016. During his time with the Ravens, Baltimore won four division titles and a Super Bowl.
