MONROE — The Monroe Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting several activities in the fall. 

The activities included are:


Out-of-school care 

For children 5K-fifth grade during their virtual week away from school. They will offer care between 7:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and meet at the Middle School Youth Center, 1504 11th St. Only two spots left in week one, last names beginning A-J. Scholarships are available. There is a fee for this program.


Adult Fall volleyball league

Men’s leagues will be on Tuesdays, women’s leagues will be on Wednesdays and coed leagues will be Thursdays. Leagues will start the week of Sept 8-10 and run for about eight weeks. For more information, contact Matt Skibba at 608-329-2466 or mskibba@cityofmonroe.org.


Chess club

Eric Jubeck will be instructing the chess club from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays Sept. 16 to Oct. 28. At Twining Park west shelter, near the sand volleyball courts, 425 14th Ave. For inclement weather, the class will be held at the City Annex Building, 1821 12th St. This is for first through eighth graders wanting to become better chess players. Students will be asked to wear masks the entire time. There is a limit of 16 with two students per table. There is no bus service so parents will need to provide transportation. There is a fee which includes a chess club t-shirt.


Pickleball

Will be meeting at 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Northeast Park tennis courts. Bring your own paddle and pickleballs. They will meet outdoors as long as weather permits.


Preschool Fun Fridays 

Will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Parks and Recreation Community Center, 1110 18th Ave. Three to 5-year-olds are able to play with peers and have fun around holiday time one day a month from October to March. There will be crafts, story time and free play. First class is Oct. 30. There is a fee for all classes.
