DARLINGTON — The City of Darlington Police Department will host its annual Police Brat Feed and Ball Game on Thursday, Aug. 1 at Riverside Park behind Piggly Wiggly. Officers will be serving up brats, hot dogs, burgers, chips and beverages beginning at 5 p.m. and will sell until they are sold out.
At 7 p.m. law enforcement officers from area agencies will comprise “The Enforcers” softball team that will face up against “The Community All Stars” team, which is comprised of various Darlington business representatives and community members, for an entertaining ball game.
This is the 21st year the department has hosted the event, which benefits prevention programs in Darlington, like the Darlington Drug Abuse Resistance Education program. The Darlington D.A.R.E. program is taught in first and third grades at Holy Rosary Catholic School as well as fifth grade at the Darlington Elementary-Middle School. It includes follow up presentations in the seventh and eighth grades as well as a Role Model program in the junior and senior levels. In addition, the program provides scholarships to graduating DHS Seniors. The goal of the D.A.R.E. program is to heighten relations between the police and youth and to reduce the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs as well as the use of violent behavior by young people.
The community is encouraged to attend and support this very important cause. There will be a bouncy house on site. There is no cost; however, free-will donations will be accepted.
