MADISON — The Wisconsin Badgers opened their 2025 schedule with a 17-0 win over Miami (Ohio), a MAC school, on Thursday, August 28. While the Badgers routed the Red Hawks in nearly every statistical category, struggles on offense dogged UW. Starting transfer quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. was hurt in the second quarter and missed the rest of the game.
Vinny Anthony II scored Wisconsin’s first touchdown of the season with a catch from backup QB and sophomore transfer Danny O’Neil in the third quarter.
O’Neil finished 12 of 19 passing for 120 yards, a TD and an INT. Edwards had 68 yards passing on 6 of 13 attempts. Dilin Jones led the rushing attack with 73 yards on 14 carries. As a team, the Badgers ran for 165 yards on 43 attempts. Defensively, Wisconsin held Miami to just 34 rushing yards and 83 passing yards. They sacked QB Dequan Finn three times, and Preston Zachman intercepted two passes.
Local product JT Seagreaves (41) saw action on the field goal unit, blocking the far right edge. A Monroe graduate and redshirt junior, Seagreaves moved up the depth chart recently with Tucker Ashcraft injuring his foot. Wisconsin will host Middle Tennessee State at 3 p.m. on Sept. 6.
