Raiders win Oregon Relays

OREGON - Both the Sugar River boys and girls track teams won team championships at the Oregon Relays Friday, April 26.

"It's always nice when both the boys and girls can win it," Sugar River coach Dan Schettler said. "I think this meet is a nice changeup and a break from all the dual meets. It shows you the depth you have to have."

The Sugar River girls edged Oregon 104-98 for the title and the Sugar River boys outdistanced Oregon 124-96.

The Raiders' 800-meter relay team of Emily DeNure, Emily Diaz, Madeline Brunner and Alexis Hanson finished first with a time of 1:50.64. Hanson teamed with Sabrina Popenfus, DeNure and Brunner to win the 1,600 sprint medley relay (4;36.12).

The Raiders won the discus relay behind Madline Knox (85-8) and Jamie Brown (85-2) and took first in the shot put led by Kayla Schween (28-9 1/2). The Raiders added second-place finishes in the 400 relay (:56.74) and the distance medley (14:04.46). Sugar River took second in the high jump relay led by Trisha Wiese and Popenfus, who each cleared 4-10.

In the boys' relays, the Raiders' 1,600 relay team of Max Eggenberger, Mitchel DeLorme, Gabe Noyce and Spencer Jones won with a time of 3:39.21, which was about two seconds ahead of Madison Edgewood. Jones teamed with Zander Yeiser, Tucker McMahan and Ryan McCoy to win the distance medley (11:28.40). The Raiders won the 3,200 relay (8:42.97).

Sugar River's Max Eggenberger, Colton Boley and Kelvin Johnson finished first in the 3x300 shuttle hurdle relay (2:12.44). Sugar River junior Garrison Woods cleared 6-0 in the high jump to help the Raiders win the high jump. Woods had a meet-best 20-3 1/2 long jump to help the Raiders win that relay and a 41-6 1/2 triple jump to help the Raiders win that relay.

Sugar River took second in the sprint medley relay (3:59.84), the 3x110 shuttle hurdle relay (:56.15). Sugar River's Landon Zimmerman had a throw of 41-7 1/2 to lead the Raiders to a second place in the shot put. Teammate Craig Thompson had a throw of 119-3 in the discus to lead the Raiders to second place.



Darlington girls win title

CUBA CITY - The Darlington girls track team won the championship at the Christopher Becker Invite in Cuba City Thursday, April 25.

The Redbirds outdistanced rival Cuba City for the team title 112.5-81. Black Hawk finished eighth (60.5), Albany took 10th (40.5) and Monticello was 11th (17) at the 12-team invite.

In the boys' invite, Lancaster edged Darlington for the title 117-99. Albany took eighth (42), Monticello was 11th (24) and Black Hawk finished 12th (12).

Darlington junior Claire Cullen took first in the 3,200 (12:54.62) and sophomore teammate Johanna Meister won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:03.81.

Black Hawk junior Jen Wellnitz won three individual events including the 100 (:12.87), the long jump (16 feet, 4 1/2 inches) and the triple jump (32-10).

Darlington senior Claire Scott finished second in the 200 (:28.67) and junior Carly Reilly was second in the 100 (:13.01). Senior Abigail Merriam took second place in the high jump (4-10). Scott teamed with Carly Langkamp, Rebecca Mathias and Reilly to win the 800 relay with a time of 1:53.26. Langkamp teamed with Christa Wamsley, Cullen and Tatum Evenstad to win the 3,200 relay (10:22.06). The Redbirds posted a second-place finish in the 1,600 relay (4:22.11). Albany's 3,200 relay team of Sydnee Woyak, Rogers, Ciearria Mortaloni and Hlavachek took second (10:53.71) and Black Hawk was third (10:58.50).

Albany junior Chantel Rogers took second in the 400 (1:02.47). In the 800, Albany junior Bailey Hlavachek finished second (2;26.96) and Black Hawk's Olivia Holland was third (2:37.05).

In the boys meet, Darlington junior Kyle Johnson won the 110 hurdles (:15.88) and the 300 hurdles (:43.47). Junior teammate Tyson Miehe won the 1,600 (4:24.18) and the 3,200 (9:34.84). Albany senior Jose Ramirez took second in the 1,600 (4:43.18) and Darlington's Garth Garrison was third in the 3,200 (10:12.45).

Darlington junior Quinn Cullen took second in the 800 (2:01.70). Black Hawk's Jayden Rufenacht finished third in the 100 (:11.88) and third in the 200 (:24.80). Monticello senior Jesse Halvorsen finished third in the triple jump (39-9) and fourth in the 200 (:25.25).

The Redbirds' 3,200 relay team of Kyle Schulte, Thomas Schultz, Dane Siegenthaler and Garrison won with a time of 8:43.25. Albany's 3,200 relay team of Chad Helland, Aaron Johnson, Johnny Kallgren and David Edmondson took second (8:49.44). The Redbirds added a second-place finish in the 1,600 relay (3:42.84).
