BELLEVILLE - Sugar River's Brooke Larson scored three goals to lead the Raiders to a non-conference 7-0 win over Platteville Thursday, May 16.

Sugar River (10-3, 5-1 Capitol Conference) didn't score its first goal until senior Elle Joseph scored a goal in the 28th minute. Larson scored her first goal at 34:27 to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead at the half. The Raiders scored five goals in the second half.

"I thought we could have had a better day," Sugar River coach John Ziperski said. "We need to be playing better ball at the end of the year. I think they have it in them. We scored most of the goals when Platteville worn down and didn't have much of a bench."

Larson scored at 41:32 and senior Karly Anderson scored a goal on an assist from Hailey Hehn at 51:32 to give the Raiders a commanding 4-0 lead. Sugar River's Jaimie Statz, Taylor Legler and Larson each scored second half goals to cap the victory. Junior goalkeeper Karina Moen had three saves for the Raiders.

Lodi is 6-0 and Lake Mills 5-0 to lead the Capitol Conference. Sugar River still has aspirations of winning at least a share of the conference championship with two games left in the conference schedule.

"We have high expectations," Ziperski said. "The girls want to win conference. We would rather have it be in our hands than expecting someone else to beat Lodi. We would rather control our destiny."
