BELLEVILLE - The Sugar River Raiders claimed two second-place overall finishes in both the boys and girls standings as they hosted a slew of area teams at the Sugar River Invite on Tuesday.
Raiders coach Dan Schettler said he was pleased with the times that his athletes posted, as it gave his team a measuring mark for where they stand.
"We were able to get some times and see what we could do tonight," he said. "We're happy with the results, and our main concern is to just do our absolute best. The meet was a little hard to direct with the workouts happening yesterday, but looking at the broad scheme of things, we are very happy with our results."
Raider senior standout Garrison Woods won both the long jump and triple jump in what are two of his strongest areas. Fellow teammate Colton Boley placed just behind in the triple jump.
Landon Zimmerman and Jackson McMahan placed first and second in the shot put, respectively, while Zimmerman added a second-place finish in the discus. Mitchell DeLorme placed second in the high jump, while Ryan Hayes, Tucker McMahon, Tyler Gilbertson all finished second in the 200, 800, and 1,600 meter runs, respectively.
On the girls' side, the Raiders finished with the top three runners in the 800 meters, led by Brianne Roska, who also placed second in the 1,600. Also collecting first-place finishes were Noelle Maire in the 3,200, Trisha Wiese in the high jump, Grace Schulting in the long jump, and the 3,200 relay team.

"We had a lot of opportunities for us to come out tonight and perform, and in seeing what we did tonight, I think we have some good things to come."
