Raiders maintain momentum

FOND DU LAC - The Sugar River Raiders improved their impressive overall record to 17-1-1, after winning the Fond du Lac Dual on Saturday.

The No. 4-ranked Raiders defeated La Crosse Aquinas (9-7-3) 4-0.

Trisha Bloey opened the scoring with a goal off of a pass from Katie Viney in the first half. Boley later assisted Hannah Kernen on a goal to make it 2-0 at halftime. Mackenzie Christensen's goal in the second half made it 3-0 and Elle Joseph scored off of passes from Shelby Hubbard and Rachel Skolaski, to make it 4-0.

Natalie Manion had just two shots against her in goal, and backup Raylynn Jelle had a save in 40 minutes of work.

The Raiders also defeated Onalaska (11-7) by a score of 5-1.

Kernen and Viney each had two goals and Lauren Narveson also scored for Sugar River. Kernen, Christensen and Sierra Watrud each had assists. Manion had eight saves in 60 minutes in goal, and Jelle had five saves and a goal against in the second half.

Kernen, currently ranked fifth in the state, in total points (70), thanks to 30 goals and 11 asssits in just 19 games. Her 30 goals are fourth in the state, just five behind co-leaders Eimile Pesch of Brookfield Academy and Lexi Herrewig of Winnebago Lutheran.

Sugar River (6-0 Capitol) hosts Lakeside Lutheran (3-13-1, 1-5) on Tuesday. A win will clinch the Capitol Conference championship outright for the Raiders.
