JUDA - Playing in the first round of their own Holiday Tournament, the Juda girls basketball team used a second-half rally to force overtime against Beloit Turner but ultimately fell, 37-35.

After going into the locker room down 12-9 at the half, Juda came out and used an up-tempo offense to outscore the Trojans 11-6 in the third quarter, including a 7-0 run at one point.

The Panthers' surge continued into the fourth quarter, led mainly by senior Jessica Rackow who had 7 of the team's 10 points in the final frame. However, the Trojans kept pace to tie the game at 30-30 at the end of regulation.

Rackow continued her hot shooting, scoring four of the team's five points in overtime, but she eventually fouled out. She finished with 21 points.

Juda head coach Curt Brown admitted his team lost a crucial piece when Rackow left the game, but he was still impressed by her performance.

"That hurt us offensively. She was really our scoring option," he said. "We had to play her on the ball and off the ball, and she really capitalized on that. She really played a nice game."

Rackow scored 12 of her 21 points in the second half, as Brown had the Panthers (1-1) run a more up-tempo offense.

"We did press a little bit more, and we just ran a smooth offense," Brown said.

Even though the faster pace was successful for that short period of time, Brown says his roster isn't big enough to use it all of the time.

"For us, number-wise, it's gonna be hard for us to do that long term," he said. "But it can be helpful for sure."

The four-team tournament started with Rockford Jefferson losing to Fall River Friday afternoon, which means the Panthers will take on Rockford Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. today.

"Rockford Jefferson, they're a big school and I think it'll be a tough game for us," Brown said.
