KENOSHA - Monroe alumnus Brent Quade shot a 3-over-75 at the Wisconsin State Amateur Championship and is in 36th place after the first round on Monday.

Quade is eight shots behind leader Eric Busalacchi of Fairways of Woodside. Busalacchi shot a 5-under-67 at Strawberry Creek and has a one-shot lead over Maxwell Hosking of Yahara Hills and Brady Strangstalien of the Viroqua Golf Course.

Quade carded eight pars early on and was even after the first seven holes. He birdied the 460-yard No. 9 and 545-yard No. 11. However, he bogeyed three of his last four holes.

Fellow Monroe graduate Kyle Bruce struggled in his first state am. Bruce shot an 11-over-83 in the first round. He birdied the 517-yard No. 2 and shot a 39 on the front nine, but ran into trouble on the back. He bogeyed five of the holes on the back nine and settled for a triple bogey on the 201-yard No. 15.
