Prust tosses no-hitter to lead Pec to sweep

RIVER RIDGE - Pecatonica senior Evan Prust tossed a no-hitter in the first game, and the Pecatonica baseball team swept a doubleheader from River Ridge Thursday.

Pecatonica (3-1, 2-0 Six Rivers East) got everything they needed from Prust. He struck out 10, walked none and hit one in the no-hitter to lead the Vikings to an 11-0 six-inning win in the first game. In the night cap of the doubleheader, Pecatonica edged River Ridge 4-2. The doubleheader was first scheduled for today but was moved up to Thursday due to expected inclement weather. The first game of the crossover doubleheaders for Six Rivers East teams will be seven innings and count in the conference standings, and the second game of the twinbills are five innings.

"He's pitched some really good games for us," Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said of Prust. "He was in command for us with his fastball in the zone. He was the man of the hour for us."

Pecatonica junior Lane Busser went 4-for-4 with three RBIs. Junior teammate Everett Johnson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and senior Cory Swenson was 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In the second game, the Vikings rallied from a two-run deficit to win the game. Pecatonica pulled off the comeback with a three-run sixth. It started with the bottom of the Vikings' lineup as Bo Hendrickson walked and Easton Schraepfer bunted for a single. Swenson delivered a game-tying two-run single. Junior teammate Carter Ruegsegger then had a go-ahead RBI single to give the Vikings a 3-2 lead.

Johnson pitched four innings to get the win. He gave up two runs on four hits, while striking out two and walking two. Busser tossed one shutout inning in relief.

ARGYLE - The Argyle baseball team committed seven errors in dropping a doubleheader to Potosi Thursday.

Potosi topped Argyle 7-4 in the first game and 7-3 in the nightcap of the twinbill. Argyle sophomore Travis Dammen had two hits in the first game. Senior teammate Josh Lehman had two RBIs.

Argyle sophomore Miken Godfrey started the first game and pitched 4 2/3 innings. He gave up five runs and struck out five. The Orioles had two errors in the first game.

The Chieftains limited the Orioles to four hits in the first game. Godfrey had two RBIs in the second game of the doubleheader. Jakob Plossel pitched four innings, where he gave up seven runs and struck out three.

The Orioles were plagued by five errors.
