Prairie du Chien topples Knights

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN - Capitol South Conference co-champion New Glarus-Monticello lost its WIAA Division 5 first-round playoff game to Prairie du Chien 36-14 Friday night.

New Glarus-Monticello (6-4) had a promising drive going in the first quarter that ended in a turnover on downs. Prairie du Chien then intercepted a pass.

"That really set up their first score and we dug ourselves a hole," New Glarus-Monticello coach Jeff Eichelkraut said. "The guys came out and fought hard in the second half. We just ran out of time."

New Glarus-Monticello junior Patrick Craker had a 60-yard touchdown run on a fake punt in the third quarter. Senior teammate Noah Zimmerman tossed a 37-yard TD pass to senior Cullen Brooks in the fourth quarter.

New Glarus-Monticello junior running back Zach Feller rushed for 79 yards on 12 carries. Senior quarterback Jared Carney was 6-of-18 passing for 84 yards, and Brooks had three receptions for 56 yards and a score.



Mount Horeb-Barneveld 56, Evansville-Albany 7

MOUNT HOREB - Badger North Conference power Mount Horeb-Barneveld rolled to a 56-7 win over Evansville-Albany in a WIAA Division 3 Level 1 playoff game Friday night.

Evansville-Albany (6-4) was no match for the Vikings, ranked sixth in the WisSports.net Division 3 Coaches Poll. Mount Horeb-Barneveld entered the contest averaging 49 points per game. With the win, the Vikings (9-1) advance to play at Waukesha Catholic Memorial (9-2) next week. Catholic Memorial escaped a scare from seventh-seeded East Troy hanging on for a 42-40 victory.

Mount Horeb-Barneveld quarterback Luke Hagelin threw for 369 yards and five touchdowns to power the Vikings.

Evansville-Albany senior quarterback Zach Mielke connected with Sulley Geske on a 10-yard TD pass for the Blue Devils' only score of the game. Mielke finished 11 of 31 passing for 88 yards. Evansville-Albany running back rushed for 23 yards on 11 carries.



Fennimore 15, Pecatonica-Argyle 8

FENNIMORE - The Pecatonica-Argyle football team's season came to an end after a 15-8 loss to Fennimore in a WIAA Division 6 Level 1 playoff game Friday.

Pecatonica-Argyle finished third in the Six Rivers Conference and wrapped up the season 7-3 under first-year coach Blake Bukowski. The Vikings had to deal with injuries this season including quarterback Colton Schraepfer.



Marksean 44, Darlington 14

MARKSEAN - Top-seeded Markesan cruised to a big win over Darlington in a Division 6 Level 1 playoff game.

Darlington, the Division 6 state runner-up for four straight years, will not get the chance to play for a gold ball this season. The Redbirds, which lost five games to start the year and then strung out four consecutive wins to make the postseason, finish the season 4-6.
