ARGYLE - Alec Treuthardt remains confident that the Argyle baseball team can live up to the honor of being named the No. 1 seed regional team.

Treuthardt went 2-for-3 with two RBI and pitched a four-hitter, but Potosi beat Argyle 6-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Friday.

Argyle (6-15) committed four errors and the Chieftains stole nine bases en route to the win.

"Errors, that killed us," Treuthardt said. "I know we can be a great team. We just need to have confidence. I just think against some teams and players we are scared."

The Chieftains swept the doubleheader knocking off the Orioles 12-2 in six innings in the second game of the twinbill.

"It's not a surprise that we lost to Potosi," Argyle coach Chuck Bredeson said. "We haven't been playing well. They are a solid team that knows how to play baseball. I thought the hot streak would start tonight. We played our two worst games of baseball. We have played way under what our kids' expectations were."

Treuthardt pitched a complete game in the first game of the doubleheader. He gave up three earned runs on four hits. He struck out 12 walked four.

The Chieftains took the lead in the second inning. Potosi's Trevor Ehl doubled and Josh Parkins lined an RBI double to right to give the Chieftains a 2-1 lead.

The Chieftains ran their way into a couple of runs. Potosi's Chase Kruser walked in the third and stole second and third base. Potosi's Riley Hawes reached on an error and Kruser scored to give the Chieftains a 3-1 lead. Parkins crushed a triple to right in the fourth and scored on a groundout by Thomas Leibfried to give the Chieftains a 4-2 lead. Hawes, who had four stolen bases, stole both second and third in the seventh and scored on Brock Bruehlman's throw into left field to give the Chieftains a 6-2 lead.

Argyle sophomore Riley Ostby, who reached base all four times he batted going 1-for-1 with three walks, singled in the seventh to help the Orioles rally. Freshman Collin Argue then lined a single to center.

Treuthardt crushed an RBI double to left to cut the Chieftain's lead to 6-3. The Chieftains went to relief pitcher Kyle Kaiser who got Argyle's Colton Ploessl to fly out to center and Kyle Emberson to ground out to third to end the game.

Leibfried pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs on six hits. He struck out two and walked five.

"He (Leibfried) wasn't an exceptionally great pitcher," Treuthardt said. "I think we should have hit him better. That's baseball. He was a very accurate pitcher. He kept the ball on the corners."

In the second game, Potosi scored six runs off Ploessl in the third and four in the fourth to take a 9-1 lead.

Argyle's Kyle Olson doubled in the fourth and advanced to third on a passed ball. He scored when the throw to third went into left.

Ploessl pitched four innings and gave up seven earned runs on eight hits. He struck out six and walked five.

Argue and Treuthardt each went 2-for-3. Ploessl singled in the fifth and scored on an error.

Argyle received a No. 1 regional seed and will play the winner of Black Hawk and Faith Christian Wednesday, June 4. The six teams combined in the regional have a total of 18 wins.

"We can beat every team in the regional by 15 runs or we could lose by 15 runs," Bredeson said.
