POTOSI - The Argyle boys basketball battled but could not overcome a relentless Potosi defense, ultimately losing 60-50.
Argyle coach Michael Cassidy said the Chieftains were physical but not overly tall, which allowed inside man Pablo Vives, a junior, to score a career-high 13 points.
"It's a relentless pressure they play, and they try to make you do things you don't want to do," Cassidy said of Potosi's pressure. "When we were able to get it in to (Vives), he was able to do some things."
The Orioles (4-6) were outscored 20-9 in the third quarter but didn't give up and outscored Potosi 17-13 in the fourth quarter.
"It showed the kids were willing to compete for all 32 minutes," Cassidy said.
He said the team's performance showed his player that "you're playing one of the tops teams in the area, you never relented and you never went away."
Junior Alec Treuthardt and freshman Riley Ostby each added 10 for the Orioles.
Argyle will play their third game in four days when they host Albany tonight. It will be Melanoma Awareness Night, and while it might be an emotional atmosphere, Bakken is more mindful of his team having to play so many games in so many days.
"That's the tough part," he said. "(We're) a young team. Sometimes it makes it a little more difficult to teach kids some things."
Still, he says "that's just the way the schedule is," and he is certain his players will come ready to play.
"The biggest task is the next game," Cassidy said. "You gotta play through it."
