MONTICELLO - Monticello senior Tyler Ritschard reached a milestone in leading the Ponies to a 55-46 win over Albany Tuesday.

Ritschard scored a game-high 28 points to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark. He has scored 1,020 points and becomes the first player to eclipse that mark in 18 years.

It was a preview of the regional game on Tuesday, March 1 when the Ponies host the Comets.

"Albany for whatever reason has played us well," Monticello coach Mark Olson said. "We have been lucky to win two games against them. We will have to play a lot better on Tuesday if we are going to win."

The Ponies led 17-12 after the first quarter and led 32-24 at halftime. The Comets outscored the Ponies 7-5 in the third quarter to cut their deficit to seven.

Albany (4-17, 2-9) had four players in double figures led by seniors Boomer Detra and Josh Peters with 11 points each. Senior Josh Krueger and freshman Isaiah Shell scored 10 each.

Monticello junior Lukas Kolasch scored 14 points and senior Corey McGowan added eight.

Monticello will host Barneveld Friday night. If the Ponies win, they could win a co-conference championship with Barneveld for the third straight year.

New Glarus (11-10, 6-3 Capitol South) trailed by 10-points at one point in the third quarter and trailed 43-38 in the second half.

"We caused some turnovers with our defensive pressure and that led to some easy transition points," New Glarus coach Travis Sysko said.

New Glarus junior Tyler Kreklow scored a game-high 31 points. Kreklow scored 20 of his points in the second half and finished with three 3-pointers. Marshall missed a halfcourt shot at the buzzer. The Knights made 6 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter.

"That was just enough to win it," Sysko said.

New Glarus hosts Cambridge Friday. If the Knights can knock off Cambridge they would earn a conference co-championship with them.

"We are playing a lot better," Sysko said. "The boys gave themselves a chance for Friday night."
