MONTICELLO - The Monticello boys basketball team shot nearly as well as it could have Thursday against Southwestern, winning, 75-63, to clinch a spot in Saturday's Division 4 regional final against powerhouse Benton.
Brandon Holz and Jacob Marty each scored 19 points for Monticello, and Tyler Ritschard (17) and Tyler Meier (12) also scored in double figures.
The Ponies jumped out to a 19-11 lead and went into halftime with a 42-27 advantage.
Monticello hit seven 3-pointers. Holz drilled three, Meier had two and Ritschard and Corey McGowan each hit one.
The Ponies went 12-for-22 from the free throw line, while commiting just 13 fouls.
Those fouls allowed Southwestern just five free throws.
Monticello faces Benton, which has grown into a powerhouse whose biggest rival is Division 4 dynasty Randolph. Tipoff Saturday will be at 1:30 p.m. in Darlington.
