Ponies snag Six Rivers title

MONTICELLO - The Monticello Ponies clinched the Six Rivers East conference title with a 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 win over the Albany Comets Tuesday.

The Ponies got it done behind the passing of senior C.J. Dilley, who had 26 assists, and the net play of sophomore Marissa Berg, who had 11 kills and four blocks. Senior Desiree Marty added two aces and senior Katie Gierhart had 11 digs for Monticello.

Albany was led by senior Jordan Neuenschwander, junior Kirstie Kauk, and freshman Lauren Bechen, all with five kills. Junior Cassidy Bump came up with nine assists and junior Julia Farley notched 16 digs for the Comets.

Monticello (14-3 overall, 10-1 Six Rivers East) will close the regular season at home against Juda Thursday. Albany (3-13, 3-8 Six Rivers East) will finish their regular season Thursday at home against Pecatonica.

Pecatonica 3, Barneveld 2

BARNEVELD - The Vikings got a big win on the road as they topped the Barneveld Eagles in a five set thriller, 25-17, 21-25, 14-25, 25-11, 15-13.

Four different players contributed to the win for the Vikings as junior Lizzy Britt put down six kills and three blocks, senior Michaela Boese recorded 10 digs, junior Michelle Francois delivered 18 assists, and senior Allison Swenson dropped in four aces.

Pecatonica ( 3-11, 2-9 Six Rivers East) will travel to Monticello for the final match of the regular season Thursday.

Black Hawk 3, Juda 0

SOUTH WAYNE - Senior Kate Quinn chalked up 10 kills and sophomore Jen Wellnitz added nine kills, two blocks, and two aces to lead the Black Hawk Warriors to a three set sweep of the Juda Panthers Tuesday, 25-20,25-22, 25-18 in a Six Rivers East volleyball match.

The Warriors also got 10 assists from senior Chaesta Shager and nine assists from junior Kelly Neuenschwander. Senior C.J. Dunwiddie combined five kills and seven digs to lead Juda. The Panthers were also led by senior Morgan Kamholz with 13 assists and senior Courtney Moisan with three aces.

Black Hawk (7-7, 7-3 Six Rivers East) will host Argyle Thursday to close out the regular season while Juda (3-11, 3-8 Six Rivers East) will travel to Albany for its regular season finale.

Brodhead 3, Palmyra-Eagle 2

PALMYRA - The Brodhead Cardinals clinched second place in the Rock Valley South with a hard-fought five set win over the Palmyra-Eagle Panthers Tuesday, 25-13, 23-25, 25-17, 22-25, 16-14.

Junior Taylor Douglas blasted 23 kills and registered 10 digs for the Cardinals. Sophomore Carly Mohns was also a major contributor with 16 kills, eight blocks, and four aces. Freshman Payton Wright racked up 23 assists and junior Amanda Pickel had 13 digs and three aces for the Cardinals.

Brodhead closed the regular season 7-3 in the Rock Valley South and 15-18 overall. They'll begin postseason play with a regional quarterfinal Tuesday.

Cuba City 3, Darlington 0

DARLINGTON - The Darlington Redbirds would like to get another conference win in the SWAL, but the Cuba City Cubans made sure it wouldn't come at their expense. The Cubans rolled past the Redbirds in three sets, 25-17, 25-13, 25-9 Tuesday.

Junior Cassidy Chambers had a hand in much of the Redbirds' attack with six assists, four aces, and two blocks. Senior Brianna Riechling led Darlington in kills with four. Senior Emily Salathe had seven digs and senior Laura Steiner had two blocks for Darlington.

"We passed better in the first set. We didn't miss any serves in the first set and that kept us in it. But, our passing game broke down as the game went on," said Darlington head coach Pam Ritchie.

Darlington fell to 2-8 in the SWAL with the loss. Their only conference wins have come against winless Boscobel. Darlington will finish the regular season Thursday at home against Mineral Point.

"We can definately beat them and get another conference win under our belt," said Ritchie.

New Glarus 3, Marshall 1

NEW GLARUS - Senior Jenna Romich and junior Maeci Roesslein powered the Glarner Knights with 11 kills each and senior Alaina Legler had one of her biggest nights with 35 assists as New Glarus earned a 25-20, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19 victory over the Marshall Cardinals Tuesday in a Capitol South conference match.

Romich also scored three aces for the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (3-15, 2-7) will travel to conference rival Belleville to close the regular Thursday.
