Ponies shine at meet in River Ridge

RIVER RIDGE - The Monticello track team had many standout performances during the River Ridge meet Tuesday.

The girls squad had five first-place finishes and five more second-place finishes. The boys team had one first place finish, two thirds and five fourth-place marks.

Junior Kelsey Bernet won the 1,600- (5 minutes, 54.13 seconds) and 3,200-meter (13:36.0) runs. Bernet also finished in second place in the 800 run with a time of 2:41.30, and was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 2 inches.

Junior Haylee Thoman finished second behind Bernet in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

Senior Rachel Nelson won the 200 (:28.72) and 400 (1:06.35) dashes and was part of the 400 relay team that finished second with a time of 59 seconds.

Freshman Lanie Havens also was part of the 400 relay, along with Annalisa Carlino and Alyssa Zimmerman, and won the 100 dash in 14.59 seconds. Havens also was third in the 300 hurdles (1:00.00).

Senior Nicole Smith finished second in the triple jump (26-8.5). Smith ran with Carlino, Zimmerman and Pai Naber for a third-place finish in the 800 relay.

On the boys side, Troy Berg won the shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 11 inches. Berg finished fourth in the discus (97-11) and was third in the 100 dash with a time of 13.25 seconds.

Berg teammed up with Chris Blum, Donald Dubel and Brent Pence for a fourth-place finish in the 400 relay.

Sophomore Josh Love finished third in the 800 run with a time of 2:51.80, just one-one hundredth of a second better than freshman teammate Bradly Bernet.

Love, Pence, Brian Rufener and Evan Schultz finished fourth in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:42.00.

Schulz took fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 57.75 seconds.
