Ponies ride Klossner, big bats

MONTICELLO - Senior Karlie Klossner allowed only a first-inning bunt single over four innings and the top four batters in Monticello's order went 11-for-13 as the Ponies rolled to an 11-0 five-inning win against Faith Christian on Thursday in a WIAA Division 4 regional opener.

Sophomore Claire Bruns struck out the side in the fifth to complete the victory as the Ponies (16-4) advanced to a second-round game Tuesday against visiting Williams Bay at 5 p.m.

Freshman Jordan Garrison went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, sophomore Marissa Berg was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs, and sophomore Claire Gietzel was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

"We're not making errors and our pitching has been very good," Monticello coach Duane Garrison said. "We're having a lot of fun."

WILLIAMS BAY - The host Bulldogs rolled to the five-inning mercy-rule victory in a Division 4 regional opener.

CUBA CITY 23, NEW GLARUS 0

CUBA CITY - Heidi Tranel threw a five-inning perfect game and Cuba City scored 19 runs in the first inning in the Division 3 regional opener. Tranel added a two-run home run for Cuba City (15-9).

DARLINGTON 13, BELLEVILLE 12

BELLEVILLE - The visiting and No. 5-seeded Redbirds won a slugfest against fourth-seeded Belleville. Darlington advances to play at top-seeded Brodhead on Tuesday at 4:45 p.m.
