MONTICELLO - Freshman Marissa Berg hit a towering home run and junior Karlie Klossner scattered six hits to lead the Monticello Ponies past the Evansville Blue Devils, 7-4, in a non-conference game Thursday.

Berg's solo home run in the third tied the game at 2-2.

"That was one of the longest balls I've seen a girl hit," Monticello head coach Duane Garrison said.

The Blue Devils took a 3-2 lead with a run in the fourth, but the undefeated Ponies took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Berg and Klossner, along with Jordan Kubly and Claire Geitzel, combined for eight of the Ponies' 11 hits.

"The bottom of the order came through for us again," Garrison said. "It was tough to play in the wind, but we battled through it."

Monticello's next game is Monday at Juda.
