BLANCHARDVILLE- Sophomore Marissa Berg stood out at the net for Monticello with eight kills and three blocks to lead the Ponies to a 25-9, 25-19, 25-16 win over the Pecatonica Vikings in a Six Rivers East volleyball match Tuesday.

Berg was the beneficiary of the play of senior C.J. Dilley who had 20 assists. Seniors Desiree Marty, Karlie Klossner, and Katie Gierhart each had three aces while Marty and sophomore Claire Geitzel added seven digs each.

Five different players figured into the scoring for the Pecatonica Vikings. Madelyn Fischer had seven kills, Julia Meyer had three blocks, and Michelle Francois dished out 10 assists. Meanwhile, Michala Boese dropped in a pair of aces and Allison Swenson came up with eight digs.

"In the first game, we made a lot of mental mistakes. We got down and were never able to fight back," said Pecatonica head coach Cher Schliem.

In the second set, the score was tied at 15-15, but Monticello went on a 10-4 run to close it out.

"Berg really started coming on hitting," said Schliem.

Pecatonica led 15-10 in the third set, when junior outside hitter Lizzy Britt of the Vikings suffered an injury and the Ponies took advantage with a 15-1 run to win it.

"We had to regroup but we hung in there," said Schliem.

Monticello (8-1, 6-0 Six Rivers East) will host Barneveld while Pecatonica (1-6, 0-6 Six Rivers East) will travel to Juda Thursday.

Juda 3, Albany 2

JUDA - The Juda Panthers put up some gaudy numbers in a five set win over the Albany Comets Tuesday in a Six Rivers East conference match. Juda outlasted Albany 20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 21-25, 19-17 behind 10 kills each from seniors Courtney Moisan and C.J. Dunwiddie and junior Cassie Benner.

The 30 combined kills were made possible by senior Morgan Kamholz who delivered an eye-popping 38 assists. Dunwiddie also added 15 digs for the Panthers.

With Albany leading 13-9 in the fifth game, Juda called its final timeout. Juda head coach Tara Lund put in junior McKayla Trotter for Benner and the strategy worked as Trotter served the next four points. Juda finally won it in extended play on Moisan's serve.

"It's Homecoming week at Juda and the kids really wanted to step it up," Lund said. "This was the last game of the first round of conference play and we wanted to end it on a good note for the second half."

The Comets were led by junior Cassidy Bump who had nine kills and eight assists. Senior Katie Krupke had 12 assists and junior Kirstie Kauk had 17 digs.

"Albany is a good team that really makes you hustle for every point," said Lund.

Albany (1-9, 1-5 Six Rivers East) will host Argyle while Juda (2-5, 2-4 Six Rivers East) hosts Pecatonica Thursday.
