MONTICELLO - The Monticello girls basketball team is hitting its stride after the Ponies beat Juda 42-34 Monday night.
Monticello (3-5, 1-2 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 12-8 first quarter lead and relied on weak-side defense to try to contain Juda sophomore Ellen Kiser and senior Heather Boeke down low. The Ponies led 21-15 at halftime and put the game away by outscoring the Panthers 16-11 in the fourth quarter.
Kiser scored a game-high 19 points and Boeke had eight for the Panthers. However, Juda (6-5, 0-3) only had two other players score.
Monticello junior Taylor Klitzke scored a team-high 11 points. The Ponies had a balanced scoring attack as Taylor Pfeuti scored nine points, Desiree Marty chipped in eight and senior Kelsey Bernet added seven.
Belmont 69, Argyle 33
BELMONT - Belmont used a big third quarter to roll to a 69-33 win over Argyle, Monday.
The Braves outscored the Orioles 31-7 in the third quarter and rolled to a non-conference victory. With the loss, Argyle drops to 2-7, 0-3.
Argyle junior Kelsey Bartels scored seven points to lead the Orioles. Sophomores Cortney Gilbertson and Danielle Treuthardt each added six points.
