Ponies knock off Comets; Pec picks up victory

ALBANY - Monticello got four hits from Taylor Pfeuti as the Ponies upended the Comets, 8-4, Monday.

Pfeuti was 4-for-5 from the plate with a double and a triple. Teammate Becky Nelson was 3-for-4 and Mersadi Hilliard was 2-for-4. Monticello scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second, one in the fourth and two in both the fifth and sixth.

Albany scored a run in each of the second, third, fourth and seventh innings.

"All four of our runs were unearned," Comets head coach Connie Wunschel said. Both teams had four errors defensively.

Karlie Klossner walked seven, gave up four hits and struck out three for Monticello while Katie Krupke struck out two with no walks and allowed 13 hits through six innings for Albany. Clare Koopmans struck out one in a scoreless top of the seventh.

"When we hit it, it goes to somebody. But I'm happy we're putting the bat on the ball," Wunschel said.

Fennimore 13, Darlington 0

FENNIMORE - Laura Steiner took the loss on the hill for the Redbirds, allowing seven runs, six earned, on six hits and two walks in two innings of work Monday.

Fennimore held Darlington's offense to just three hits. The Redbirds also committed five errors.

Pecatonica 4, Shullsburg-Benton 3

SHULLSBURG - Kaci Cassidy struck out seven and walked one Monday, while giving up six hits for Pecatonica.

The Vikings collected just five hits - two by Ellie Gifford - and committed four errors in the field.

Pecatonica scored one run in the fourth and three in the fifth while Shullsburg-Benton scored two in the fifth and one in the seventh.

Barneveld 6,

Black Hawk 1

BARNEVELD - The Warriors scored their only run in the top of the fifth inning Monday, and the Eagles did all of their battering in the bottom of the first.

Barneveld collected eight hits against Black Hawk's pitching. The Warriors committed three errors in the field as well.

Lakeside Lutheran 15, New Glarus 1

LAKE MILLS - Calsea Garbe allowed 12 runs - 10 earned - on the hill for New Glarus Monday.

Lakeside Lutheran had 10 hits and scored two runs in the first, five in the second and four runs in both the third and fourth innings.

The Knights, who collected just three hits in the game, scored their only run in the fifth.
