MONTICELLO - Junior Trae Seffrood hit a home run and the Ponies used a five-run second inning to slip past the Orioles, 9-7, in a Six Rivers East Conference game Thursday.
"That opened it up a little," Monticello coach Jason Pinnow said. "The glaring stat of the game is of our nine runs only two were earned."
The Orioles committed five errors.
Monticello junior Chris Voegeli went 3-for-3 to lead the Ponies.
Argyle junior Cole Jordan, who was 2-for-2, also homered for the Orioles. Argyle sophomore Jared Johnson was 2-for-3 and junior Nate Thomas was 2-for-4 with a double.
Monticello junior Corey McGowan pitched 3 2 /3 innings in relief of Lukas Kolasch to get the win. He gave up two runs on three hits. McGowan struck out five and walked one. Thomas took the loss on the mound for Argyle. He pitched three innings and gave up six runs on five hits.
Monticello (2-4, 1-2 Six Rivers East) travels to Albany Monday while Argyle (4-2, 2-1 Six Rivers East) heads to Hazel Green to meet Southwestern in a non-conferecne game today.
Pecatonica 3, Albany 2
BLANCHARDVILLE - The Vikings improved to 2-0 in the Six Rivers East with a 3-2 win over the Albany Comets Thursday.
With the scored tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ross Gilbertson got his third hit of the game with a double. Jake Scoville singled to put runners at the corners. Tyler Francois reached on an error, allowing Gilbertson to score the winning run.
Pectonica (6-2) travels to Orfordville Parkview today, while Albany (0-3, 0-2 Six Rivers East) plays at Belmont.
Southwestern 16, Darlington 2
HAZEL GREEN - The Wildcats scored 11 runs in the second inning and handed the Redbirds their first loss of the season with a 16-2 win over the Redbirds Thursday.
Darlington got just four hits and committed six errors. Senior Colton Carpenter went 2-for-2 to lead the Redbirds.
Darlington (7-1, 3-1 SWAL) will host Fennimore Monday.
Palmyra-Eagle 8, Brodhead-Juda 7
BRODHEAD - The Cardinals led 5-0 after three innings, but the Eagles roared back with a single run in the fourth, five runs in the fifth, and two more runs in the sixth to edge Bodhead-Juda, 8-7.
Sophomore Tyler Malcook went 2-for-4 and scored three runs for the Cardinals.
Brodhead-Juda (1-6, 0-6) will travel to East Troy Monday for a make-up game.
